400G ZR/ZR+ Optical Transceivers

Rising data requirements and consumption are fueled by growing demand in 5G, AI, cloud, streaming and other applications. Statista projects that in the next two years, monthly internet traffic will grow by at least 15 exabytes.  Greater adoption of ultra-high data rate fiber solutions in data centers will be conducive to improving network performance for these applications. Despite growing data demands, however, utilizing traditional fiber technology in ultra-broadband networks brings about cost concerns. Technical constraints and limitations of legacy optics technology also hinder performance when it comes to power consumption and heat generation.

Advanced modulation schemes

In today's networking landscape, coherent optics have become essential to addressing rapidly scaling data demands. In contrast to NRZ (Non-return-to-zero) or PAM4 (Pulse amplitude modulation with four levels) amplitude modulation schemes, coherent modulation schemes can modulate amplitude, phase and polarization. This enables coherent optics to transfer an increased amount of data in a single optical signal over longer distances.

The ability to transfer more data with greater efficiency and over longer reaches makes coherent optical transceivers an ideal solution for high-capacity, metro/long-haul networks. Coherent optics are particularly well equipped to handle 400G data rate networks. Coherent optics also offer lower cost-per-bit which makes it a more practical and affordable solution for building or upgrading high-capacity networks over longer distances.

400G ZR Transceiver

Axiom 400G ZR QSFP-DD transceiver utilizes DWDM and a 16 QAM modulation scheme to deliver ultra-fast 400G optical data transmission over a single optical wavelength link up to 80 km. Axiom 400G ZR transceivers use C-FEC to find and correct errors to preserve data integrity. The transceiver modules are compliant to the QSFP-DD MSA Hardware Specification, the Common Management Interface Specification (CMIS) with extensions specified in the OIF Coherent CMIS implementation agreement. The transceiver is RoHS compliant.

With high-capacity data transfer and flexible grid support, the 400G ZR transceiver is best suited for DCI and metro/edge/regional ROADM applications. The 400G ZR transceiver can operate at 120km with amplification.

400G ZR+ Transceiver

Axiom 400GBASE ZR+ HO QSFP-DD Transceivers are a superb fit for extended range data transport in long-haul networks. Axiom 400G ZR+ transceivers are fully interoperable as they are based off the OpenZR+ MSA (Multi Source Agreement) standard.

With multi-rate support and high transmit output power, Axiom 400G ZR+ transceivers offer greater flexibility and reduce the amount of equipment and costs required. The 400G ZR+ solution features an impressive data transport range for 400G data rates at up to 600km but can also be extended at lower data rates.
